Will Low Smoke Halogen Free Cables are Burned

Published by Author: Joey Wan December 29,2020

Now, with the development of urbanization, there are many XLPE insulation cables,  low smoke halogen free insulation cables. For example, nowadays solar cables are in great demand. Many high-quality solar cables will use XLPO/XLPE insulation and low smoke halogen free sheath. After receiving solar cables, many customers conduct a combustion test and find that the cables can be burned, and then ask us why low smoke halogen free cables will catch fire.

In fact, low-smoke and halogen-free does not mean that the cable will not catch fire, but the smoke emitted and the light transmittance will be better than traditional PVC. Traditional PVC as a sheath material will release a large amount of smoke after being heated or burned, and its light transmittance is below 10%, which will cause great damage after a fire accident. Therefore, solar cables generally use low-smoke halogen-free sheaths. Low smoke halogen free cables emit less smoke when burned, and their light transmittance is generally above 80%. At this time, the vision is clear, but ordinary PVC cables The amount of smoke is the largest, and its lowest light transmittance is about 10-20%, which is a state without vision.

Therefore, low smoke halogen free cables are not cables that cannot be burned, but safety cables that can reduce disasters to a minimum.
