South African vanadium producer Bushveld said it has secured funding for the engineering, procurement and construction of a hybrid microgrid project that will provide energy for its operations at its Vametco mine in South Africa.

The hybrid microgrid project will provide approximately 10.7% of Vametco's electricity and will demonstrate the technical and commercial viability of a hybrid microgrid using solar panels and an all-vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB).

Bushveld's 84%-owned energy subsidiary, Bushveld Energy Ltd, has completed development and financial settlement of a project that will provide Vametco with a 3.5 MW solar PV and a 1MW/4MWh VRFB hybrid microgrid project, which will act as a stand-alone power producer business operation.
