When using the wire, how do we properly strip the wire insulation?

Published by Author: Joey Wan February 21,2022

In daily life, each family needs to renovate or replace the electric wire for house from time to time. When we just bought the single core flexible wire, it was packaged perfectly. When we take it out for installation, we often need to cut it according to the plan. Stripping and other operations, cutting the pvc insulated flexible wire is easy, but it is not so easy to peel off a section of the insulating layer. It is easy to damage the conductor with a knife. However, in order to replace or repair electric wire for house or to reconnect wires to other wires or terminals, we often need to carefully remove the insulation. As one of the best quality electric wire for house manufacturers for over 20 years, we share with you some basic tips for removing pvc insualted flexible electrical wire insulation.

Three methods to strip the insulation of electrical stranded wire

1. Use manual electrical wire strippers

You need to have a electrical wire stripper with many slots in the jaws. These sockets vary in size to accommodate different wire types and gauges. Insert the electric wire for house to be stripped into the center of the correct slot. PVC insulated flexible electrical wire and cable sizes are located below each slot. Once the electrical wires are in the correct slots, gently close the handle. Apply enough pressure to cut through the insulation. However, it is not advisable to use too much force when extruding, otherwise the wire conductor will be damaged, making it unsuitable for electrical projects.

2. Use a sharp knife

Place the electrical stranded wire to be stripped on a flat surface. Hold the knife in one hand and the wire in the other. Place the knife exactly where you want to peel. Gently coil the wire and let the blade remove the insulating sheath. The process is similar to sharpening a pencil. Don't put too much pressure on the knife or you will end up damaging the copper or aluminum conductors of electric wire for house. It takes some practice before applying the right pressure. It's not a bad idea to practice the technique on scrap wire first.

3. Use a hot blade wire stripper

Using a hot blade wire stripper is a good idea if you need to strip a lot of household buidling wire insulation. Hot blade strippers have slots that heat up and melt the insulation. Put the electric wires for house in the correct slots and secure the strip around the heating element. Close the handle, twist the electric wires for house and pull it out. You will get the perfect stripped PVC single core flexible wire.

General Instructions for Removing Electrical Wire Insulation

1. Be careful when using any of the tools above to remove PVC insulated flexible wire insulation, being careful not to damage the wire conductors, which can easily oxidize.

2. Do not use hot-blade strippers on heat-resistant single core flexible electrical wire, as the stripper will destroy the electric wire for house's heat-resistant tissue.

3. When using a hot blade stripper, make sure the blade is clean.

4. Hold the quality pvc insulated electric wire for house at a 90-degree angle to the cutting blade.

5. Make sure the insulation has no rough edges. If there are, trim them and keep them tidy for safe use.

Household buidling electrical stranded wires must ensure the integrity of the wire conductors and the integrity of the preserved insulating layer during construction. If too much insulating layer is accidentally removed, the insulating layer must be repaired after the wires are connected. We cannot be careless when using or laying electric wire for house, we must do the laying work perfectly, and the wires are practical only when they are completed.
